Me and my mother: A relationship of love and hate
“My story begins 4 years ago, when my father abandoned us. He left one night without telling anything. After a few days my mother announced me that my dad will never come back and that we are going to go on with our life just the two of us…
Every single day we were losing contact… My mother became isolated, she lost her appetite for food and she used to sleep all the time. I was trying to stand on my feet. My only ally to all this was my best friend. I used to cry on her shoulder about anything that seemed to me huge – starting from taking care of our house and my mum and ending to the school exams. I couldn’t imagine that my life could change so radically in one night…
After a while, my mum recovered and then the tough stuff started. We used to fight about everything. It was impossible to discuss. I made countless efforts on that, without any result although. She didn’t allow me to get out of the house with my friends because she was afraid of staying alone. There were some moments that I felt like hating her, but I used to miss so much our beautiful discussions… It took us a lot of time to realize that we had both changed a lot. I was forced to grow up in one night and undertake the responsibilities of an adult. My mother, who I always remember to be really active, collapsed when she found out that my father had an affair. We managed to find ourselves when we told one another our complaints and decided to make a mutual effort.
